About

Ah, yes. There I sit in all my glory.

So here’s a bit about me. My name is Charlie. I started this blog in December of 2010, when my (then) girlfriend and I were just about to move to South Korea to teach English for a year. I updated it here and there whenever my life seemed interesting. After we dug out of the hole we were in from a previous job’s untimely demise, we started traveling around Asia a bit, and I thought my life was totally interesting enough to write about, so I did.

We ended up spending two years in Korea, with side trips to Bali, Hong Kong, Japan, and Thailand. Then we moved back to the U.S., planned a wedding, got married, and hit the road for a summer in Europe. We went to Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Turkey, and then packed up a couple of bags and moved to New York for a few months. After working in the big apple for a while, the universe seemed to want us to move down to Texas, where we are now, and resume our careers so we can have babies and stuff.

Things are a bit less travel-intense now, but I do love to cook, and I think it’s interesting enough to write about (see a theme here?). I try to write about the way I cook the way I actually cook, with a bit of humor and without measurements. Since food tends to remind me of places I’ve been, I try to include a little bit of whimsy into my thoughts on eating. Basically, I’m full of gas.

That’s me.

  1. Hi Charlie
Like you, food brings back the memories of lovely people I dined with & wonderful places I was fortunate to be at. What are your favorite destinations in Korea? We have only been to Seoul & Nami Island, and might go back there … some days in the future 🙂

    Best wishes

    • Hi! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

My favorite destinations in Korea would be Seoul, Gyeongju, and Busan. Korea actually has some very nice beaches northwest of Seoul as well. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
